Horsepower for Veterans

Match Your Passion with Purpose and Help Change Lives!

Lend a helping hand. Volunteers make it possible for Trinity to exist and change the lives for so many people every year.

The time, energy, effort, and hours upon hours that are devoted to us and our programs are incredible. It's impossible to compose the right words or capture our deep appreciation for all our volunteers. We cannot thank you enough!

Volunteer opportunities include:

Special Events: We can always use extra hands and feet to help with events for: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Eau Claire Academy, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, United Cerebral Palsy, Lutheran Social Services, and Adaptive Physical Education.

Barn Helpers: If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and love being a real help, then let me tell you, there's a shovel and fork with your name on it! Barn helpers assist in cleaning stalls, watering horses, sweeping floors, etc.

Healing with Horses: Be a part of therapeutic riding lessons as a horse handler or side-walker, and help change someone's life! Without volunteers, our therapeutic riding program would not exist. If you are over the age of 12 and able to walk for a consistent 50-60 minutes, you are eligible to help. No horse experience necessary; we provide you with training.

Photographers and Videographers: If you are comfortable behind the lens, snapping that shutter, or helping people feel comfy in front of the video cam, we need you to help us build our photo album and video library.

Fund Raising Team: If you are a go-getter and not afraid to talk with people or, better yet, have experience in fund raising, please consider helping us build the Healing with Horses scholarship fund, the camp scholarship fund, and general Trinity grants.

General Handyman & Maintenance Crew: If you like to swing a hammer, dip a brush, sink a post, split a log, mow a lawn, drag an arena, plow some snow, dump the trash, we need you desperately.

A Note from Karen, Our Volunteer Coordinator

Other than the students who have to fulfill a community service requirement, a lot of the volunteers are just trying to fill their days since retiring. That was my intention when I came to Trinity back in 2004. What I didn’t realize at the time was the relationship that would develop between myself and you wonderful folks. What I also didn’t realize was the impact that I (one person) could have with the special needs, at risk and seriously ill children who walked through your doors. The tremendous feeling of watching a child overcome what he/she is dealing with for the short time that they are on the horse and actually smiling and having a grand time. We’ve witnessed a child overcoming fear and anxiety and replace it with joy and hope. It doesn’t get any better than that.
What I also didn’t realize when I started was the friendships that would be developed with other volunteers. You and Jan work along side of us, showing us we are all in this together. You trust us to do our jobs and let us know how valuable we are to Trinity. I volunteer at other organizations in Eau Claire and I want you to know that you are the best in valuing your volunteers and making them feel that what they do is so very much appreciated.
On a more personal note, volunteering raises self esteem – no doubt about it. The difference between working at a job and volunteering is that there are no hidden agendas, no games played for personal gain and no stress. We are there because we choose to be and what a difference that makes.
